Eternal Metamorphosis -
On The Theory Of Change And It's Impact On Writing

One of the things that I believe brings on the most painful form of angst is living in a world where the only thing that is constant is change. The world is always changing, people are always changing, and you will always change - things you thought you would never encounter, roads you thought you would never walk, will seep into your life without warning, and scoop you up. How many of you can look up right now, and ask yourself "where am I?" How did I get to this place?" and no answers unfold like you hoped and you are left…. with nothing.

Many of us produce our best writing in the face of change, betrayal and unexpected twists and turns in life. It is in that period of question, confusion and pain when your soul is raw and you lash out at the world that betrayed you, the world that "changed" and left you behind in it's constant wake.

All we can do is ride this eternal metamorphosis, hoping and praying that someday, we will be given wings, and that it will make angles of us all.

Neglected dollhouse
Paper doll
rolling through burning flesh..
Aching fields moan a hypnotic mantra
washing beauty away in thick waves
The heavy smell of death numbs my mind into imagined sleep
and I become paralyzed.

Where everything is bent
and slippery.
Caught

forever awaiting
that
perfect
butterfly....
