Now obviously, there are ways to write
opinion and truth that are formal and configured... A textbook, a
self-help book, a help-file or even an ad... But philosophical ideas, guidance to life, and lessons of experience are most often more elegantly proposed in the nuances of poetry and prose.
Very few, if any, pieces of work contain no comments on life or living... In fact, I have difficulty even considering how something could be written without commenting on life. Even gibberish carries a statement.
But the idea must be conveyed, and convey itself it will, often beyond any distinct ability to recognize it. Whether through writing or another art, an interesting practice in clinical psychology is to request or coax the subject or patient into creating artwork in order to learn more about what the person is experiencing. A person unwilling or unable to communicate something otherwise, may reveal much more in what they display... As many of our thoughts are often muddled, confused, or even intolerable to us, it's quite difficult to communicate underlying ideas in a standard manner. When presenting a story or poetic piece,
these underlying ideas can bleed into work, giving it a character
otherwise unrealized. For no other reason than this, my personal favorite
pieces which I have ever written I don't choose for elegance of form or
"profoundness" per se, but those which I can consider and
interpret to learn something more about myself. |
